演題 蛋白質活性部位に存在する短い水素結合とプロトン移動

 X線結晶構造解析では、蛋白質分子構造の詳細を明らかにすることができる。一方で、水素原子を見ることは困難である。水素原子の有無は、水素結合の有無を左右する。水素結合は、蛋白質構造維持に重要であるばかりでなく、酵素活性等の機能の源でもある。特に、水素結合を介してつながった分子集団「水素結合ネットワーク」は、H+を移動させるパスとなり、蛋白質内反応、情報伝達においてしばしば重要な役割を担う。
 ここでは、光合成の水分解・酸素発生反応を担うPhotosystem II (PSII)を中心に、「光」という入力によって誘起される「構造変化」「反応性変化」という蛋白質側の出力が、ちっぽけなH+の介在により初めて可能となる様子を紹介したい。
